Description: This book is a series of newspaper articles relating to the sinking and salvage of the “HMS Hussar”, which sank in 1780 in the Hell Gate area of the East River (Bronx, New York City) and was reputed to be carrying 14 chests of coins (a British army payroll during the Revolutionary War). The articles range from 1780 to 1985. A few conclusions about the wreck are drawn in the introduction, but the question as to why no treasure has ever been found on the “HMS Hussar” is unanswered.
