Editions: The first edition was published by S. Horsey, Sen., Portsea, England (1840), in hardback. There were at least 6 subsequent editions. Some of the volumes were bound in wood salvaged from the wreck and were originally sold in wooden boxes, which were also made from the wreckage.
Description: This book relates eyewitness accounts of the sinking of the “HMS Royal George” in 1782 at Spithead, England. It also recounts various attempts to salvage the vessel in the 60 years following its demise, including Tracy’s attempt to raise the wreck in 1783 and Col. Pasley’s operations in removing the wreck during 1839-1840. The preface of the book is signed by J.S. (Julian Slight).
