Description: The first part of this book tells the story of the wreck of the “Batavia” off the west coast of Australia in 1629, their survival on several nearby islands, and the subsequent massacre of many of the survivors by a crazed member of the crew.  The author spent 2 weeks on the same islands as the survivors and reflects on his experience.  The second portion of the book tells the story of the author’s summer adventure working on a tuna fishing boat during his youth.
