Description:
This book recounts the history of the “S.S. Brother Jonathan”, a sidewheeler that sank off Northern California in 1865 carrying a large shipment of gold coins.  It also tells of the struggle between the salvors and the State of California in getting a search permit approved and later a salvage permit…and the infighting between the investors.  In the end, the lawyers were the real winners.  Very well researched.
